‘Ed’s Whale’ set for September screenings

Posted

FRIDAY, June 11 — After years of delays, “Ed’s Whale,” a documentary on Lansing artist Ed Lahti, will be revealed later this year.

On a Facebook page devoted to the film, filmmaker Quincy Gow announced two invite-only screenings Sept. 6 and 7 at Lansing’s Celebration! Cinema. He also shared a new trailer for the film.

Lahti was diagnosed with cancer in 2012. Gow originally planned to make a documentary about the process of publishing Lahti’s book, “Walter the Whale with Wings.” The Kickstarter campaign set up to fund the film offered an expected delivery date of February 2013. But when Lahti died in January 2013, Gow expanded the documentary into an overview of Lahti’s life and his impact on the community.

Gow said he is submitting the film to several 2017 film festivals, including festivals in Michigan, and hopes to have a public screening for the Lansing community.
