Pets for president

Soldan's hosts election-themed fundraiser

Posted

FRIDAY, Nov. 4 — While U.S. citizens go to the polls next week to decide the next president, Soldan's Pet Supplies is running an election to settle an age-old debate: cats or dogs? The pet store's Dogs vs. Cats Presidential Race allows visitors to cast a vote for their preferred pet.

“All of the negativity this election has brought about got us thinking, why not host our own presidential race?” said Nikki Soldan, business development manager for Soldan’s Pet Supplies. “We have a smooch your pooch kissing booth that we bring out for events that we retrofitted into a voting booth. You even get a ‘I voted at Soldan’s’ sticker and a $5 coupon to thank you for helping us raise money for our local rescues.”

Polls opened this morning at all eight Soldan’s Pet Supplies locations and will be open through Tuesday. If you don’t dig the two party system, you can write in the animal of your choice. Patriotic attire is encouraged but not required. Visitors can bring the whole family — pets included — to get a picture taken in front of the store’s “voting booth,” and Soldan’s encourages social media sharing with the #VoteSoldans, #WhyIVotedDogs and #WhyIVotedCats hashtags

A $1 fee per vote — no limits — will directly benefit the animal rescue group of your choice. Once the polls close on Tuesday, Soldan’s will match the donations dollar for dollar. The results will be posted each night on Soldan’s Facebook page so you can stay up to date on who is winning the race.

Visit Soldan’s website or Facebook page for more information.
