Zip lining from dizzying heights and Lansing culture mix for Rooftop Hop

Posted

Do you love Lansing and have a penchant for traversing dare-devilish heights? Lansing 5:01’s Rooftop Hop will host zip lining from four different locations starting today at precisely 5:01 p.m., with free attendance and a $10 charge per zip line ride.

“Attendees will have the chance to see the sights and hear the sounds of the city from high-atop Lansing’s skyline, with four rooftop venues hosting unique artists and activities,” said Lansing 5:01’s president Josh Holliday.

“And when this young talent thinks about the ways in which they can get from place to place in our region, we want them to think about walkability and public transit — the modes of transportation that our future residents care about.”

Kicking off at La Fille Gallery, 5:01 p.m., the event will progress to the Knapp’s Center and Christman Building before closing out at the Marketplace Apartments,11 p.m. The line for the zip line location at La Fille Gallery will be at the corner of Washington Square and Ottawa Street.

A brochure will be provided at La Fille Gallery detailing the event in full.

There are plenty of events to make Rooftop Hop worthwhile for those not interested in zip lining. La Fille Gallery will open its four floors of gallery space and have jazz musician Twyla Birdsong performing in a speakeasy lounge. The basement terrace is open to enjoy drinks as well.

The Knapp Center will feature an aerialist performer, music by DJ Etta Unofficial and appetizers from the Soup Spoon Café. Those employed by Lansing 5:01’s sponsoring companies will be privy to a VIP lounge featuring cupcakes from Whipped, a private rooftop patio and a complimentary zip line ride.

The Christman Co. stop overlooks the capitol building from six stories and features a class on how to build a succulent terrarium with Where the Wild Things Bloom, live music from Monte Pride and a doughnut board from Lansing 5:01. Also at Christman, a solar panel demonstration by business incubator The Fledge.

“Show your pride for Lansing. Shout it from the rooftops. Tonight is your opportunity to do so, literally,” said Holliday.
