Though there are no awards for this 5K, the sweaty work will not go to waste — proceeds will ensure Ingham, Clinton and Eaton County seniors get Christmas presents.
“The Brew Run and Walk started when the Lansing Brewing Company opened about 2 and a half years ago,” said Andrew Marsh, events marketing team member of Playmakers. “We connected with them and Gillespie Group, decided to host a fun run, and continued to move forward. For the last two years we've been having a fun run every month,” said Marsh.
According to their website, the Lansing Brew Run’s goal is to raise $10,000 throughout the year to charitable causes.
This month’s charity the Brew Run will benefit is the Tri County Triad, a volunteer organization that fights for seniors. “We are raising money for their program No Senior Without Christmas,” said Marsh. “They provide members with Christmas gifts and support an effort to give all seniors a pair of socks.”
According to the Tri County Triad website, they package 350 boxes for needy, homebound seniors in Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties.
Though it is a run, Marsh said the atmosphere is not competitive at all. “It’s very lowkey. A lot of people use the brew runs as an opportunity to meet up with friends, run and enjoy a cold drink afterwards.”
Running shoe company Saucony will be on hand to showcase their products as well.
Hosting these events benefits the Lansing running community and business, said Marsh. “I love the Greater Lansing running community. It is a way for Playmakers and myself to stay connected,” said Marsh.
Though the event is free it is important to RSVP, so the Lansing Brewing Company can plan for how many free appetizers they need to produce, said Marsh.
“It is a great combo and a really fun atmosphere,” said Marsh. “You get a nice evening on the Lansing Brewing Company patio and you can't beat that.”
Routes start at the Ribbon Trail south of the City Market.
