Zoobie's Old Town Tavern

Bacon is running from the plates of breakfast diners to cocktail glasses and chocolate bars.
The chefs at Zoobies are cooking up a special bacon themed food and drink menu for Bacon Bash 2018 — an all out celebration for America’s guilty pleasure that benefits the Lansing Habitat for Humanity.
Griffin Claw Brewing from Birmingham, Michigan will be taking over the taps with four of its signature beers. Zoobies and Griffin Claw will team up to each donate $1 for every beer purchased to Habitat for Humanity.
“We are hard pressed to find anybody who doesn't like bacon,” said Lisa McMahon, Potent Potables Project director of events.
“It is easily paired and it’s been on our menu with our pizzas since the beginning. There are a lot of new trends incorporating it into drinks.”
Cocktails include a spin on a Manhattan, called a Baconhattan, and a Screwdriver copy with the Bacon Adjacent. For food, items include a baconator sandwich, jalapeno pigtails and island style bacon pizza. Chocolate dipped bacon and bacon infused chocolate Zoobar will be served for dessert.
Lansing rockers Off the Ledge and Fenton natives Tie-Dyed Giants will provide entertainment on the patio.
The chefs worked hard for the last couple weeks preparing for bacon bash, trying out new recipes and cocktails to see what sticks, McMahon said. “The Zoobars are completely done and our chefs are wrapping them in their own label. We are prepping up in mass quantities.”
Beer, bacon and the summer go well together, she said.
“We try and do a patio party every single month and throughout the summer when the patio is open. We wanted something to be a little fun for our chef to do. This is the way to do it.”
As the second annual Bacon Bash, the event is tailored to help Lansing’s Habitat for Humanity, McMahon said. “We want to pick local charities in the community and give back to them.
We wanted to give them their own event each year.”
It is important to support the community as an Old Town standard, she said. “We are one of Lansing’s original craft brew bars so we want to tie things in that make us different into one event.”
