Live comedy at Bad Brewing Co.
8 to 10 p.m.
Bad Brewing Co.
440 S. Jefferson St., Mason
Chuckle and chortle to local and statewide comics while sipping a signature brew by the fireside on the Bad Brewing Co. patio.
“It is a cool thing for Mason and a free show that brings a lot of people to the brewery,” said Bad Brewing Co. owner and brewer Brian Rasdale.
Three years ago, local comics Will Green and Pat Sievart approached Bad Brewing Co. and worked out a free show, Rasdale said. As far as he knows, it is the only comedy event in Mason, Rasdale added.
“Sometimes Mason is a smaller town and there isn't a lot of live entertainment options,” host and comedian Pat Sievart said. “People get to see a good show with comics from around Michigan and get exposed to them.”
Starting comedy six years ago, Sievart said he wanted to give something he always enjoyed watching a shot. “I really liked SNL and the Simpsons and when I turned 30, I wanted to try.”
Performing is more complex than people think, Sievart said. “There is a level of unpredictability, and you can have a joke that always seems to work and you deliver it all those times and falls totally flat.”
Growing up in Mason, playing his hometown brings its own set of advantages and disadvantages.
“I like it because I don't have to put in hours of driving, but I run into old teachers and friends I haven't seen in awhile, so I have to make sure I am somewhat funny.”
A lot of residents in Mason come out and fill the event space, he said. Seating is limited but the event will accept those that bring their own chairs, according to their website.
Bad Brews has 21 beers and two ciders on tap. Good Bites, a food truck, will be on hand to serve farm to plate artisan style food during the show.
Dave Currie, whose perormed stand up comedy in Lansing since he was 16, will headline. Comedians Aharon Willows, Tom E. Thompson, Ben Macks, Megan Cottington will also perform.
