THURSDAY, Oct. 4 — Craft beer and craft doughnut holes make a merry match in Lansing’s first Holes and Hops event — a benefit for the Michigan Special Olympics. The event will see 10 breweries and four doughnut shops come together.

“It doesn't sound like a great combination off the bat, but when you match the flavors and create the right kinds of pairings, it is surprisingly good.” said Andrew Gauthier, founder and baker of Groovy Donuts.

The event cashes in on the trend of doughnut shops and craft breweries opening in Lansing and around the nation, he added.

“They create communities of people as gathering places. You can interact with other people in the community over coffee and a doughnut, the same as a beer.”

For the event, Groovy Donuts will make a tiramisu doughnut hole for its pairing with Ellison Brewing, and a Blood Orange Ale infused old fashioned style doughnut hole in its pairing with Cheboygan Brewing.

Groovy Donuts co-owner Monica Lucas said the event was created to become a new tradition in Lansing.

“We want to eventually take the whole stadium and turn it into something that really embraces the Lansing area as a great place to be.”

Admission includes six sampling tickets good for a doughnut hole and beer pairing each.
