WEDNESDAY, NOV. 21 – As Lansing grows economically and culturally, Lansing 5:01 seeks to attract new professionals to the capital city.

“Lansing is no different from the rest of the state, where there was a larger migration of talent to other parts of the country. We are now in a position to welcome that talent back,” said Christopher Sell, founder and executive director of Lansing 5:01.

Banking on family members returning to Lansing for Thanksgiving, the networking event will feature representatives from local and world class employers looking for talent locally.

“We have Fortune 500 headquarters and legacy strongholds in advanced manufacturing, education and state government.” Sell said.

Lansing also leads with insurance companies, financial services and MSU’s Facility for Rare Isotope Beams, or FRIB, coming online, he added.

Taking place at the View, there will be refreshments and appetizers from local venues. BWL will also showcase its light installations within the Cooley Law School Stadium for the first time.

Sell said he encourages visitors to start off their Thanksgiving Eve bar night at the event with a tour of what Lansing has to offer.

Lansing is poised for significant growth and the numbers look promising, Sell said.

“We know from 2016 to 2017, we had a net gain of 17,000 folks or five people moving to Lansing every day. There is potential for even more growth.”

More activity and residential options in Lansing’s urban corridor is on the horizon with increased overall growth in the tri-county area, he added.

“We think it has made a comeback.”
