TUESDAY, Jan. 15 — Flora and fauna watercolor works will adorn Blue Owl Coffee’s brick backing for Bath native Hannah Bowman’s opening reception.

Becoming an artist runs in Bowman’s family.

“We’re all pretty artsy and musical, and perhaps more pitched toward artsy things than others. Two years ago, I started doing watercolors and did it more seriously,” she said.

Emulating other watercolor posts on Instagram, Bowman is self taught and learned her technique from practice. “It is very therapeutic,” she added.

She said once she posted her own art on Instagram and was offered commissions, she decided to further her passion as a watercolorist.

“I find I am most inspired hanging out with friends on a walk, or going to a coffee shop. When I come home, it is easy to sit down and paint.”

The call from Blue Owl to exhibit came as a surprise to Bowman, as she was travelling through Dubai at the time.

“I’ve been following them since before they opened their shop. Once I found out they put artists on the wall, I submitted.”

Most of her watercolors are of flowers.

“I just really like flowers and the beauty you can capture with them,” Bowman said. “It is a universal thing that everyone has a favorite flower so people can appreciate what I do.”

This will be her second exhibit and first solo exhibition.

Bowman said her sister has been instrumental in giving her the confidence to exhibit her work. “I wouldn’t be here without her,” she added.

If interested, her work will be on sale.

“I am really excited because my friends who have supported me throughout the years are coming. I just want it to feel like a big hangout.”
