MONDAY, Feb. 25 — “Period. End of Sentence,” the short documentary shot and edited by Potterville native Sam Davis, won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short at the 2019 Academy Awards yesterday.

The short, which was the subject of a City Pulse cover story on Feb. 13, sees Davis and crew travel to Hapur, India, where they learn more about the social stigma surrounding menstruation.

In her acceptance speech, director Rayka Zehtabchi —  standing alongside Davis and one of the film’s producers, Melissa Burton — joked that she was, “not crying, because I’m on my period or anything,” and said she “could not believe a film about menstruation won an Oscar.”

“Period. End of Sentence” can be streamed on Netflix.
