The Lansing Concert Band will begin the new season Sunday with "Autumn Winds," under the the supervision of Gary T. Sullivan.

The evening kicks off with Robert Jager’s "Esprit de Corps," a tribute to the United States Marine Band, followed by Ronald Lo Priesti’s "Elegy for a Young American," a piece written in honor of the late President John F, Kennedy.

It’s followed by a suite of Aaron Copland themes taken from the soundtrack of the 1949 film "The Red Pony." Highlights of the second half include James Curnow’s "Centerpiece," which will be performed by guest artist Richard Illman, Michigan State University associate professor of trumpet, and John Philip Sousa’s rarely heard "The Man Behind the Gun," originally written for Sousa’s 1899 operetta, "Chris and the Wonderful Lamp."
