Already immersed in the holiday season, the Lansing Concert Band presents its annual holiday concert, teeming with talent and holiday tradition.

The Lansing Concert Band is under the direction of newly appointed artistic director and conductor, Gary T. Sullivan. He was appointed last spring, but this will be his first LCB holiday show.

The concert features the  Community School Singers, the Young Men’s Chorus and Kristin Zaryski, director of the two singing groups.

The band will play three major concert classics: Floyd Werle’s “A Celebration of Christmas,” Percy Grainger’s “Sussex Mummers’ Christmas Carol” and Alfred Reed’s “Russion Christmas Music.” Also, the concert band will play well-known holiday favorites, such as  “Sleigh Ride” and Victor Herbert's "March of the Toys" from "Babes in Toyland."

“The band is terrific,” Sullivan said. “They’ve been having great rehearsals, and it’s getting exciting.”

The Community Music School Singers will sing “Three Nativity Carols,” and the Young Men’s Chorus will sing “Do You Hear What I Hear?” and “Kiss the Girl” (from Disney's "The Little Mermaid"),  both arranged by Zaryski.

“The two (singing) groups are used to performing for their own friends and family, and some have not had the change to perform in such a large venue, or in a community outside of where we rehearse,” Zaryski said. “They are really excited for this new experience.”

To wrap up the night, both the CMS Singers, the Young Men’s Chorus and the audience will sing along with the Lansing Concert Band to Warren Barker’s medley “It’s Christmas.”

Tickets for the concert are almost sold out, which both Zaryski and Sullivan are excited about.

“The band is very well-supported by the community,” Sullivan said, “and this is one of their more popular concerts.”

“Overall, this should be a joyous night of music for the musicians and singers, as well as the community,” Zaryski said.
