Got an overdue fine at a Capital Area District Library? Donating food can get it waived.

In celebration ofNational Library Week, the CADL is againoffering patrons an opportunity to exchange food for fines.

From April 10 to16, patrons can donate non-perishable food or personal care products to theirlocal CADL branches and receive a waiver of $1 per item toward their overduefines, up to $5 per patron.

Food for Fines, aweeklong exchange program, is a collaboration between the Capital Area DistrictLibrary and local food banks.

“We’re collectingdonations at 13 branches and we'll give them to local food banks to help thecommunities," said Veronica Beecroft, the CADL associate director and thecoordinator of the program.

Patrons can bringcanned or packaged food to the front desk of any branch during operating hours. Personal care products, such as deodorant, toilet paper, soap, toothpaste, razors, shampoo and conditioner, are needed as well.

Homemade orhome-canned goods and opened or damaged packages are not acceptable.

Beecroft said donatingfood is an easy way to get fines waived, but the program only applies tooverdue fines, not to any other kind of charge.

Other restrictions mayapply. For details, visit www.cadl.org/food or call your local branch.
