Emerging Michigan-born producer and DJ SuperDre spins funky-minimal techno at Mac’s Bar Friday. Also performing are GRiZ, iNoV8 and Pretty Boi.

SuperDre has brought her signature sound and vibrant stage energy to packed dance floors across the nation. She performs most of her sets on turntables, along with midi controllers, a dying art among live producers and DJs.

She has shared the stage with such notable DJs as DJ Irene, John Acquaviva and Terrence Parker.

East Lansing club goes Co-Op

Each Friday, The Landshark brings the co-op vibe to its club, hosting a variety of bands and DJs weekly.

This Friday features resident DJs Robert Perry and Dean Cue spinning dance tracks. On Sept. 9, the bar hosts Stepdad, a Grand Rapids-based dance-rock unit on Quite Scientific Records.

For those who are actually co-op residents, there is no cover charge and they can bring a “plus-one” guest. Also, residents and their guest will have a “line bypass” as well, so there’s no waiting outside, no matter what time they show up. There is a $4 cover for non-co-op residents. 

Friday, Sept. 2 @ The Landshark Raw Bar & Grill, 101 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, 21 and over, $4, co-op residents are FREE, one guest. Music starts at 9 p.m., goes until 2 a.m. 

The Loft hosts hardcore Back-to-School Bash

Local screamers take over The Loft Saturday with an all-ages, back-to-school rock show. Taking the stage will be the Holt-based hardcore bands Forever A Hero (alternative/electronica) and I Made A Monster (melodic/ambient). Also performing are the Lansing band State of Havoc (experimental hardcore) and It Lies Within, a Flint-based metal band. It Lies Within recently had its song “Fears of Yesterday” featured on an episode of the Nickelodeon/MTV 2 TV series “Shreducation.”

Saturday, Sept. 3 @ The Loft, 414 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, all ages, $5 advance, $7 at door, doors 8 p.m., music starts at 8:30 p.m.

Aegaeon visits Blackened Moon

Aegaeon, a progressive deathcore band from Evansville, Ind., headlines a long night of metal at Blackened Moon Concert Hall Saturday.

The five-piece band formed in 2008 and self-released its six-track EP, “Exponential Transcendence,” in July 2009. More recently, it dropped its debut full-length, “Dissension,” on Aug. 15. The album is available for purchase at aegaeon.bigcartel.com.

Opening the Blackened Moon show are the Michigan-metal sounds of The Devastator, I Made a Monster, Sleep Eater and Dweller.

Hard rockers Wayland, Kyng hit Uli’s

Uli’s Haus of Rock hosts a double-bill on Saturday, featuring Michigan-based Wayland and the Los Angeles-based Kyng.

Wayland is a high-energy band named after its hometown. The band is promoting its new single “Fire Down Below,” a cover of the 1976 Bob Seger tune.

Kyng is touring in support of “Trampled Sun,” its new album due out Sept. 27. The band formed in January 2008 and quickly developed a sound reminiscent of 1970s metal and hard rock with a modern edge.

BoomBox features son of Grateful Dead members

BoomBox is an Alabama-based duo that mixes funky-psychedelic guitars with space rock, disco and electronic beats.

On Sept. 7 BoomBox plays Mac’s Bar.

During the 1990s, Zion Rock Godchaux (guitar/vocals) was a well-received touring DJ from the San Francisco area. Being the son of Keith and Donna Godchaux of The Grateful Dead, the songwriter was born with music in his blood.

DJ/keyboardist Russ Randolph grew up in the musically-rich Muscle Shoals, Ala. He has worked on numerous albums for independent artists and major labels.

Opening the show is Elliot Lipp of 1320 Records.
