A children's classic comes to life in “Are You My Mother?”

Posted

Wednesday, Jan. 25 — P.D Eastman’s classic tale of one baby bird’s desperate search for her mother is brought to life in the original musical “Are You My Mother?,” as part of the Wharton Center’s Act One Family Series.

This colorful adaptation of the beloved children’s book — first published in 1960 — tells the story of a baby bird who emerges from her shell while her mother is away from the nest to gather food. Eager to meet her mother, the newborn goes on a journey to find her. Along the way, she finds guidance in the form of a dog, cat and hen.

“Are You My Mother?,” features the ArtsPower Touring Company. Greg Gunning, ArtsPower’s artistic director, adapted and directed the show and wrote the lyrics, while Richard De Rosa wrote and orchestrated the musical score.
