Eleven local groups recieve grants for 2013

Thursday, Dec. 20 — The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs announced today that 11 Lansing-area nonprofits would receive nearly $35,000 in grants to further their mission. 


The funding is part of the organization’s 2013 Regional Regranting Minigrant Program, which provides financial assistance on a matching basis to nonprofit organizations that address the community need for arts and cultural programmingThe Arts Council of Greater Lansing is the regional administrator of this statewide program, overseeing funding for arts and culture projects in Ingham, Eaton, Clinton and Shiawassee counties.


The two components of the program consist of arts projects and professional and organizational development.  The grant money, which must be used in 2013 between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30, provides funding for locally developed arts and cultural projects and strengthens the administrative infrastructure for nonprofit organizations.


The arts project recipients consist of the Capital City Film Festival ($4,000), the Summer Solstice Jazz Festival ($4,000), the Community Circle Players ($4,000) the Habibi Dancers ($2,709), the Holt Community Arts Council ($4,000), iMichigan Productions ($2,500), the Lansing Concert Band ($4,000) and the Meridian Community Band ($3,691).


Professional and organizational development recipients consist of Happendance ($1,500), Meridian Community ($1,500), Michigan Humanities Council ($950) and Michigan State University’s Community Music School ($1,500).


A qualified peer review panel chose the grant winners among the submitted applications. The Arts Council of Greater Lansing has administered MCACA grants regionally since the program’s inception in 1986.
