A rundown of Lansing shows this week

Thursday, June 13 — A healthy dose of comedy, electronica and good old rock and roll swings through Lansing this weekend. At The Loft, a state police trooper headlines a comedy benefit tonight, while a monthly electronic show re-emerges on Friday. Uli’s Haus of Rock on the south side does what it does best on Saturday, featuring three bands from around the state.


Also, this week’s edition of Turn It Down highlights more upcoming shows in the area, from progressive rockers Genetics at The Loft to Wisconsin indie rock band Outside Lions at Scene Metrospace.


Dwayne Gill highlights comedy benefit show at The Loft

Michigan State Police trooper and standup comic Dwayne Gill headlines the He Laughs 2 comedy benefit show for the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing. Gill started his comedy career in Ann Arbor and has since appeared on the Bob and Tom radio show, shared the stage with famed comedians including Louie Anderson and Kathleen Madigan and released CDs of his standup, including 2009’s “Inappropriately Funny.” Robert Jenkins and Hedlun Walton open the show. The event will be emceed by Melik Brown.

Monthly electronic concert series at The Loft

Presented by Fort Knox Entertainment, Lansing’s EVOLVE electronic music collective returns to the dance floor. Artists such as ARP 220, Jay Arthur, Eklipx and more are performing at the event. This month’s show celebrates the birthday of Lansing bartender and DJ Craig Doepker, who began DJing at the Firm and performs at various venues around Lansing.

Rock from around the state at Uli’s

Clarkston’s Tripp ‘N’ Dixie, who opened for Candlebox in Flint in May, will perform at Uli’s Haus of Rock with Red Stone Souls and Combat Corduroy. Red Stone Souls combine Detroit rock with influences like Wolfmother and Led Zeppelin to form a unique rock and roll blend. The band will play Lansing’s Common Ground Music Festival in July. Combat Corduroy, from Kalamazoo, combines alternative influences like Foo Fighters with classic rock sounds.
