Report Inappropriate Comments

I agree with your selection of the measures in this legislation that should have the highest priority. Making these measures law will be a hard sell nationally and in Michigan. However, I believe the law enforcement officers will benefit from their adoption as well as the community. When a person dies in a lock-up, on the street, in their car, or their home surely the officers involved must experience shock and sadness as well as the victim's family, relatives, and friends. Police officers have been improperly trained to handle non-violent situations that sometimes result in injury or death.

I hope officers support these changes and convince their associations that change is needed. I believe this change will remove some of the pressure the officers feel in certain situations whic is created by certain elements in their training and the absence of other elements. So many of these incidents that escalate to a bad end weaken some people's support for law enforcement agencies generally. Passing these measure will provide an opportunity to make a bad state of affairs better.
