This weekend, Greater Lansing offers a wide range of events, from concerts, a film screening and a live-band burlesque show to drone-piloting and beekeeping classes, a walking tour of historical locations on Michigan State University’s campus and a Juneteenth community softball game.
For Friday evening’s live music, we have Oxymorons at Lake Lansing Park South and The Real Ingredients at Lansing Brewing Co., both at 7, and the Chris Canas Band at The Green Door and The Plurals, Tigershark Don’t Quit, A Rueful Noise and Mileage at The Avenue, both at 9. Saturday evening, we have Showdown at Williamston Roadhouse at 7 and Geech at The Green Door and The Locals, Jenn’s Apartment and LoLo at The Avenue, both at 9. Finally, Sunday afternoon, we have the Randy Napoleon Trio at Red Cedar Spirits in East Lansing at 4.
Art displays on view this weekend include The Mid-Michigan Art Guild’s 16th Annual 12 x 12 Show at Framer’s Edge in Okemos, which is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday; “The LGBTQ+ Artist in Michigan” at the Lansing Art Gallery, which is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; and “Blind Spot” and “DIGEST” at MSU’s Broad Art Museum, which is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
Get creative at Keys to Manifestation 3 p.m. Saturday with a class on the basics of painting miniature figures for tabletop gaming, displays, altars and more. The figures are the standard size for Dungeons & Dragons, so for only $15, it could be a great way to take your gaming experience to the next level.
“Alabaster” continues at the Williamston Theatre 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 3 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday, and Peppermint Creek Theatre Co. wraps up its two-week run of “White,” a comedy by James Ijames, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Visit Harris Nature Center 8 p.m. Friday for a 3-mile dog walk through the nighttime woods. Dogs need to be on a 6-foot, non-retractable leash.
The 3rd annual Meridian Freedom Fest kicks off with a free outdoor screening of “The Wiz” 9 p.m. Friday at Meridian Historical Village in Okemos. Dress as your favorite character from “The Wizard of Oz” and bring a chair or blanket to sit on.
If live shows are more your speed, UrbanBeat is hosting a live-band burlesque show 7 p.m. Friday, presented by Detroit burlesque performer Eartha Kitten. The event is 18+ and features performances by Kitty Hawkk, Venus Valentine, Shelley LaBelle and Eartha Kitten herself.
Kids 15 and under can enjoy a morning of fishing 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Valhalla Park in Holt. There will be prizes for the biggest catch and the most fish caught. Participants must bring their own fishing poles, but bait will be provided.
Afterward, kids can celebrate the end of the school year 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Higher Ground Community Development Center with a School’s Out Party, featuring basketball, a bouncy house, an obstacle course, games, snow cones and more.
Celebrate the start of summer reading at the Grand Ledge Area District Library 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday with ice cream sundaes and chances to visit with adoptable pets from the Capital Area Humane Society. Bring items to donate to the shelter or make a monetary donation online.
Visit the Lansing Art Gallery 10 a.m. Saturday for a class on the basics of drone piloting. Learn about drone parts and functions, remote piloting, safety and navigating airspace from Mario Swaidan, an FAA-licensed commercial drone pilot.
Interested in learning more about beekeeping? Members of the Michigan Beekeepers Association will visit Harris Nature Center 1 p.m. Saturday to share basic bee facts and information about how to become a beekeeper. Afterward, participants will practice the skills they learned with the nature center’s observation hive.
The Historical Society of Greater Lansing and MSU Archives are teaming up to present a free walking tour of historical locations on MSU’s campus 10 a.m. Saturday. The tour, based on the book “Tales from the Archives Volume Two: Sacred Spaces,” published by MSU Press, will meet at Beaumont Tower.
Join other community members in a softball game 2 p.m. Saturday at Benjamin Davis Park, hosted by Lansing Juneteenth. There will be a tribute to the Negro Leagues, and Juneteenth vendors will be selling food and merchandise.
The Salus Center, a gathering space and information hub for Lansing’s LGBTQ+ communities, is hosting a Pride Month Resource Fair noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Local organizations will provide information about resources, and there will be screen-printed shirts and tote bags as well as free food.
Finally, venture to Bendy Stem Farm in Dimondale 4 p.m. Sunday to tour the Michigan-native plant nursery and meet the owners. The tour, hosted by the Wild Ones Red Cedar Chapter, is free and open to the public.
