Code compliance cracks down on 'Eyesore' property

Illegal camping cited for action

Wednesday, Nov. 2  — The property highlighted as City Pulse's "Eyesore of the Week" last week was swiftly targeted by city of Lansing code compliance officials.

Scott Bean, a spokesperson for the city, said that after the story appeared on Oct. 26 about   1702 Linval St. in Lansing, city code compliance officers visited the property. After inspecting the red-tagged home, the officer knocked on the door of a camper  in the driveway of the home.

"The occupant of the camper was belligerent and hostile," Bean wrote in an update. "He was informed that if he didn’t move his camper it would be towed. He then stated that he knew the owner of the property and the owner was letting him stay there. The camper was informed that he was in violation of occupying a red-tagged property and violating the urban camping ordinance. "

Code officials contacted Mohamad Abduljaber, the property manager for 1702 Linval. Abduljaber claimed he didn't know who was camping on the property but had been trying to get them to leave.

That contradicts what Abduljaber told City Pulse last week about the camper. At the time, he said the camper and occupant had permission to be in the driveway.

Abduljaber served federal prison time for a kickback scheme involving healthcare with his wife, former medical doctor Shannon Wiggins.

This 1912 home has been owned off and on by E & A Group LLC of Grand Blanc since 2015, according to property records. Ammar Abuwaraga is the agent for the LLC. He referred City Pulse to his property manager, Abduljaber, for comments on the property last week.

Bean said when code officials returned to the property the next morning., the car and camper were gone.
