Great art, food, music marks fun weekend in Lansing

SATURDAY, Aug. 21 Though 90 degree heat beat down onto the city without mercy, Lansing was alive today with cool events sprawled across several of its neighborhoods.

Art Feast, which attracted nearly 100 artists to Turner Street, debuted today and earned a great turnout. The new art festival had several hundred people crowding Lansing’s Old Town neighborhood to enjoy sidewalk sales from local shops, check out arts and crafts from a pop-up marketplace of unique vendors and, of course, feast on delicious food from great hometown and regional eateries.

Another art festival, Arts in the Park, was introduced today at Adado Riverfront Park. Those who chose to enjoy the heat beside the Grand River were treated to performances by Riverwalk Theatre, Habibi Dancers, Happendance, the Lansing’s Child Choir and the Curtainless Theatre.

Elsewhere in East Lansing at Bailey Park, the annual folk and American roots music festival Pumpstock returned after a hiatus forced by the coronavirus pandemic. Attendees relaxed in camping chairs and picnic blankets, while artists including Dan Navarro, Rev. Robert Jones, Gaines & Wagoner, Nathon Bell and The Dangling Participles performed high energy sets in the warm summer heat. Other local performers at the festival included Tania Watt, Two-Faced Wilson, the Sigh Studio Student Showcase and Debbie Walton.

After the sun began its long descent, Lansing’s east side neighborhood was still alive thanks to a concert at The Avenue Cafe, which featured local indie rock groups Pet Me, The Ryne Experience and LVRS.
