Humanities college offers Lunchtime Yoga classes to the public

Posted

WEDNESDAY, Oct. 23 — Step out of the cubicle and into your subconscious this week with yoga therapist Kintla Striker.

As part of her weeklong residency with Michigan State University’s Residential College of Arts and Humanities, Striker is offering free group yoga classes in the LookOut Gallery Thursday, Oct. 24, and Friday, Oct. 25. Mats will be provided and the event is open to students and community members.

The Lunchtime Yoga classes are designed to step back from the day and learn tools to “begin again,” according to Monday's press release. Striker has trademarked her version of trauma-informed yoga, called Kintla Yoga Therapy, which combines traditional yoga elements with neuroscientific research demonstrating yoga’s impact on the autonomic nervous system and parasympathetic nervous system.

Through her business Kintla Yoga LLC, Striker aims to offer tools that can help individuals cope with day-to-day stressors, as well as long-term trauma. She also co-curated the LookOut Gallery’s recent exhibit, “We Can Begin Again: Moving Through Trauma,” which ends Sunday, Nov. 27.
