Town hall held to welcome struggling artists to East Lansing

Posted

WEDNESDAY, Sept. 15 — This afternoon at Patriarche Park, East Lansing artists are invited to attend a public town hall about the state of the city.

East Lansing invited consultants from national nonprofit group Artspace to consider whether the city has the resources to provide affordable housing for creatives.

Artspace has helped communities across the country build space for artists, so they can be home to a thriving art scene. It has done work in Dearborn and Mount Clemens already.

East Lansing openly acknowledges that college towns tend to have higher rent. This town hall is a chance for struggling artists to have their voices heard and tell the city exactly what they need.

The meeting is a chance for locals to voice their opinions about East Lansing and let the consultants hear residents’ thoughts about the type of places that artists need for the city to build a thriving art community.
