The Erinys Quartet is sure to delight classical music enthusiasts and casual listeners alike as it performs some of the greatest masterworks of the string quartet repertoire Thursday evening at Michigan State University.

The program will include Beethoven’s beloved String Quartet No. 12 and Béla Bartók’s Third String Quartet, the shortest and perhaps most unique of his six quartets. A video of the Erinys Quartet’s recent gold prize-winning performance of the Beethoven piece at the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition is available on the competition’s YouTube page.

Additionally, the quartet will perform Gabriella Smith’s joyful, raucous work “Carrot Revolution,” which features extended techniques from each player and draws influence from multiple genres, from folk to jazz to rock.

The Erinys Quartet is Elizabeth Stewart, violin; Joosep Reimaa, violin; Marija Räisänen, viola; and Stergios Theodoridis, cello. The ensemble was founded in 2018 at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and recently served as the fellowship quartet at the Curtis Institute of Music. The group has also received prizes from the Bad Tölz International String Quartet Competition and the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.
