Kids can get free bike helmets at the annual Lids for Kids event Saturday, taking place at a new location this year.
Lids for Kids gives children a professionally fitted helmet to help keep them safe. A helmet can help prevent serious head and brain injuries during falls or crashes.
According to event host Sinas Dramis Law Firm, most kids under the age of 14 don’t wear a helmet while biking — only about 15% do. Lids for Kids has helped provide more than 14,000 helmets to Michigan children.
It’s probably a bit far for a bike ride, but if you miss this weekend’s event, there’s another May 30 at Garfield Park in Grand Rapids.
In addition to the helmet giveaway, the Lansing event also includes safety lessons, balloon and bubble art, mini tennis, hockey puck handling, crafts, a free bike drawing and more. Kids must be present to get a helmet, and helmets must be worn to enter the bike drawing.
