Absentee ballots as early as today

Lansing City residents could get their absentee ballots as early as today.

The city sent out a record number of ballots, 23,000, starting Thursday.

With the mailing logistics, those ballots are expected to hit mailboxes as early as today, Saturday, Sept. 26, said Lansing City Clerk Chris Swope.

The election has already had strong early interest, he said.

More people are interested in the convenience of the ballots each year, one of the perks is giving people time to consider the candidates and causes on the specific ballot, he said.

It’s the first time in decades that both the U.S. Senate and the Michigan governor’s race have had no incumbent.

The election workers stuffed envelopes for about a week. Each of the absentee ballots gets a sticker.
