Everyone is welcome to come out to the non-partisan Souls to the Polls trunk-or-treat event Saturday, promising plenty of candy, toys and other goodies.
Hosted by the Lansing City Clerk’s Office to promote voter participation ahead of Tuesday’s election, there will be mock elections to determine kids’ favorite Halloween character and favorite candy, as well as a “ballot proposal” about sharing candy with kids who aren’t able to go trick or treating.
For the grown voters, the event is a chance to fill out their actual election ballots. Any registered voter in Lansing has the right to vote early in person up to and including Election Day.
“We are so excited to be able to work with community partners to engage the community and educate our youth about voting,” Lansing City Clerk Chris Swope said. “At the same time, we can provide this new option for early voting, which will be convenient for many people with very busy schedules.”
