Patrons of Delta Community Choir’s spring concert will hear 55 voices rattle the walls with a repertoire ranging from spirituals to jazz, Dylan to Disney, Broadway to film and beyond.
As part of the choir’s mission to build community through song, there is no admission fee. Donations will be accepted for the Lansing’s Children’s Choir, which will deliver a special guest performance.
The children’s choir is led by artistic director Megan Higle, assistant director Ben English and accompanist Chrisann Lowe. It aims to give children free access to music education and performances in a judgment-free environment. It offers three groups — a prep choir for ages 4 to 6, a treble choir for ages 7 to 13 and a chorale for teenage singers — as well as a free summer day camp encompassing music, art, drama and dance.
“Music is such an enriching part of a child’s life, but cuts to school music programs and reduced grant funding for the arts limit kids’ chances to experience the joy of choral singing,” Delta Community Choir music director Zach Everly said. “We love to hear children’s voices raised in song and are delighted to invite them to share the stage with us on our spring concert. This is our way of supporting the next generation of community music makers.”
