Greater Lansing gains a new Aldi location
The grand opening of the newest Greater Lansing Aldi store on Thursday (Oct. 15) had shoppers lined up around the building. Doors opened at 8:45 a.m., and the first 200 customers received a gift bag containing a sampling of Aldi products and a gift card.
Some customers even parked camping chairs in line to secure a spot.

DeWitt resident Nick Lewis planned on arriving early for a chance at the complimentary gift bag.
But by 8:30 a.m., Lewis said the store was already moving people along, something he suspected would happen.
The new Lake Lansing Road location is closer to Lewis than the others in the area, and the store’s opening fit perfectly into his schedule.
“It kind of conveniently worked out that I needed to come shopping,” he said.
Once the complimentary gift bags ran out, customers received a free reusable Aldi bag.
“At our new Lansing ALDI store, customers will see why so many already choose ALDI for their weekly grocery shopping,” Regional Vice President Ryan Fritsch said in a release. “As shoppers look to stretch their dollar further, we’re excited to open this new location and bring more people a high-quality grocery selection they want and need at the lowest possible price.”

The Lake Lansing store is the fourth in the area, with a fifth under construction in Grand Ledge. There are over 100 stores in Michigan.
A new Meijer Express, a souped-up gas station with grab-and-go food options like sandwiches and potstickers, also opened Thursday on Lake Lansing Road, at the Abbot Road intersection about 2 miles away. It features 12 pumps, carries sandwiches from GoodFellas Bagel Deli and even has a machine that dispenses Purple Cow ice cream.
“We are honored to be recognized by customers as the top convenience store brand in the U.S. Customers are increasingly looking for value and convenience, and our mPerks rewards program and Meijer Express stations offer both in a format that is easily accessible while fueling up or on the road,” Meijer said in a statement.
Total Wine & More also opened in town, with a Frandor location that opened about a month ago.
The mega alcoholic beverage store stocks more than 8,000 wines, 4,500 spirits and 2,500 beers.
