This weekend, heavily inked and cosplay-clad Michiganders will descend upon the Lansing Center for the Tattoo City convention, a crossover between tattoo and anime culture.
While there’s a lot of anime, the tattoo aspect isn’t an afterthought, with more than 125 artists in attendance. Daily contests will be held for the best black-and-gray, color and anime-themed tattoos. A best-in-show prize of $10,000 will be handed out on Sunday.
The event is family friendly, with free admission for children 10 and under. Anyone under 16 must be with an adult.
Friday’s lineup includes a discussion with voice actress Christina Kelly (“One Piece,” “Chainsaw Man,” “Food Wars!” and more) and a special effects makeup panel. Saturday brings a cosplay Q&A panel, a discussion with voice actor David Vincent (“Jujutsu Kaisen,” “Bleach,” “Kill la Kill” and more) and cosplay contests (adult, teen and group). Stand-up comedian Mark Britton (who also voiced seven different “Dragon Ball Z” characters) will also perform two sets each day of the convention.
