206 Curwood Castle Drive, Owosso

The Shiawassee Arts Center’s second annual “Upcycle Art in the Park” exhibit, on display along the Shiawassee River beginning Friday, will feature nearly two dozen upcycled sculptures made by both emerging and established Michigan artists, including Doug DeLind and Scott Poe of Mason, KW and Forrest Bell of Haslett, Chance Liscomb of Lansing and Birney Adams of East Lansing. The exhibition aims to draw attention to the environment and the importance of recycling, with sculptures made primarily of trash and other objects obtained from the river and recycling centers.

The gallery will hold an opening reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, featuring food from The Sideline Sports Bar, live music by party band Magic5, a silent auction of artwork and a raffle for a Denago e-bike. Awards totaling $3,500 will be given out to the artists, and attendees will have an opportunity to vote in the people’s choice contest, which runs through Aug. 30. For more information about the exhibition or to purchase tickets to the grand opening, call (989) 723-8354 or visit shiawasseearts.org/upcycle-art-in-the-park.
