Rogers-Carrier House
528 N. Capitol Ave., Lansing
History buffs and music aficionados are invited to join the Historical Society of Greater Lansing and Ron Eggleston, a Lansing resident and former board member of the Capital Area Blues Society, for a program Thursday evening on the history of CABS and its role in bringing national acts to Lansing during the last days of the blues in the 1990s.
“CABS led to a resurgence of the blues in Lansing and was a catalyst for creating a camaraderie among local blues players, which still exists today,” Eggleston said.
Attendees will learn about the legendary artists, like Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Sippie Wallace, Muddy Waters, James Harman and Alberta Adams, who performed regularly in the area at Michigan State University, The Stables, Grandmother’s, Capitol Hill Station, Jambalaya’s and The Green Door. Some special blues posters, created by local artist Dennis Preston, will be on display.
“CABS brought in a cornucopia of blues artists over a five-year period, which fueled the blues in Lansing,” Eggleston said.
