Contemporary folk and Americana artists Kate Peterson and Joy Clark make music that’s good for the soul. Their shared Ten Pound Fiddle concert happens to fall on the eve of the latest No Kings protest.

Each artist will perform a full set of original music, wrapping audience members in the hope that comes from community gathering, instead of the darkness of political matters.

Local folk enthusiasts will likely remember Clark, who headlined the 2024 East Lansing Women in the Arts Festival. She’s a Louisiana-born artist who is making big waves with her blend of soul, folk and fearless storytelling.

Like many of her peers, Clark’s musical journey began in her father’s church. Her critically acclaimed debut album, “Tell It to the Wind,” released under Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records, marks her arrival on the national stage.

Peterson is a Michigan State University alumna who has also headlined the Women in the Arts Festival, both solo and with her Lansing-rooted, nationally touring duo Nervous But Excited. An openly queer artist, her songs explore identity, resilience and connection. She is no longer touring full time, and this show marks a special return to the stage.
