Let The Flaky Croissant make your morning
No one likes a Monday. Not even me, and I have that day off. Still, it’s the day I’ve reserved for completing all of my many adult tasks. This week, though, I got things off to an excellent start by visiting The Flaky Croissant for a pre-gym breakfast with a friend.

Located in the amusingly named “Hamptons of Meridian” plaza, The Flaky Croissant — formerly known as Chapelure, an area favorite — offers a variety of freshly baked pastries, with plenty of sweet and savory options. The standard menu includes the classics, such as custard and fruit danishes and, of course, croissants — including a decadent take on an almond croissant, the Jamando.
The seasonal pumpkin mousse pastry tempted me, but I was too enticed by the savory croissants. These alone were hard to choose between: spinach and feta, Caprese and a few egg and/or breakfast meat options. My plans for the gym should have steered me toward an egg sandwich, but I couldn’t resist the feta. I also got a large iced latte with coconut milk.

After the staff heated up our pastries, we took our breakfast out to the little patio area to enjoy the gorgeous, if eerily warm, fall day. My latte was delicious in that it actually tasted like espresso, which is rare, but nothing could have prepared me for the quality of the pastry.
The outside was crispy and buttery, while the inside was gooey with what, when heated, became essentially spinach-and-feta dip. Drizzled with balsamic glaze, it was a deeply savory, not-too-decadent flavor and texture match made in heaven.
The pastries are very elegant and beautiful to look at, as is the whole store. You can sense the care and thought that went into everything. More importantly, you can taste it. The store opens at 7:30 a.m. most days, so consider stopping in some morning when the day ahead feels a little too daunting.
