Stage One invites the community to a staged reading of Martin Luther King Jr.’s Letter from Birmingham Jail, the late civil rights leader’s powerful defense of nonviolent resistance and call to morally resist unjust laws.

Directed by Melik Brown (aka Metro Melik), the production brings together local actors and community leaders to give voice to King’s words, which are still urgent today.

Sycamore Creek Church has produced readings of the letter many times — with adults, with children, live, and on video. “Each time, the words land fresh,” organizers say. “Each time, they ask something of us.”

This year, experience the words yourself.
