Albert Avenue, downtown East Lansing

The inaugural Red Cedar Roots Festival is rooted in the legacy of the Great Lakes Folk Festival, which was put on hiatus in 2017, and its predecessor, the National Folk Festival, which ran from 1999 to 2001.
A committee was formed two years ago to decide whether it was feasible to reestablish a folk festival in East Lansing. After months of discussion and hundreds of comments from local residents, the answer was clear.
Coordinators of the Red Cedar Roots Festival hope it will become an annual event, similar to the GLFF.
The lineup includes The Velvet Boys, Kritya Dance Ensemble, The Flint Southernaires, Celestina y Los Sanchez, Yamini Kalluri & Kritya Music Ensemble and Wilson Thicket.
