ScrapFest 16

An annual spectacle of sculpture and sustainability returns to Old Town this weekend.
The 16th annual ScrapFest will feature a scrap-metal sculpture competition and auction, a “ReFashion Show” highlighting clothes made from scrap fabric, eco-art vendor booths, welding demonstrations, family activities, music and plenty of food.
More than 30 teams worked for one month to create sculptures out of metal from Friedland Industries’ processing plant, which they had only an hour to pick out. On Saturday, judges will declare winners in three size categories. Festivalgoers can vote for their favorite sculptures in a separate people’s choice competition, the winners of which will also be announced Saturday.
The sculptures will be sold through a silent auction, which closes at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Interested buyers can start bidding now at scrapfest.com.
