STEAM Expo Weekend

With more than 100 hands-on activities, talks and demonstrations by Michigan State University professors and researchers, science fans of all ages and interests are bound to find something to enjoy at the MSU Science Festival’s STEAM Expo Weekend, running 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (April 5) and Sunday (April 6) at the school’s STEM Teaching and Learning Facility.

On Saturday, biology-inclined attendees can use a microscope to analyze the structure of real neurons, while others can learn about the science behind liquid nitrogen ice cream — while eating some, of course. The following day, kids can learn about fun science experiments that can be performed at home, while older attendees can learn about how MSU’s Facility for Rare Isotope Beams recreates the nuclei of stars and duplicates their reactions.

Some events run both days, such as the “fingerprinting using chemistry” station, which teaches attendees how chemistry can be used to identify the source of pollutants.
