East Lansing superintendent stepping down

East Lansing Public Schools Superintendent Dori Leyko told her board on Monday that she will be resigning.

Leyko also shared the news in an email to parents, students and others.

She said her last day is intended to be Aug. 13, after 14 years with the district.

Leyko has been superintendent for the last 10, she has been in education for 33 years.

“It has been a privilege to serve this district and to get to know so many of your children and families along the way,” Leyko said, in the email. “East Lansing is a special community because of its people. I am grateful for the trust you place in our schools and for the many ways you support your children, our staff, and one another. I have learned a great deal during my time here, and I am proud of what we have accomplished together for students.”

Leyko said she is committed to working through the rest of her time.
