Lansing Police identify human remains found earlier this year

Lansing Police said Wednesday that they had identified the human remains that were discovered in September and the remains belong to Antonio McPherson.

Police have previously sought public help in locating a 27-year-old named Antonio McPherson, who was reported to be missing and endangered in summer 2025.

Police did not release any information about McPherson in the Wednesday statement:

“The victim has been identified as Antonio McPherson. The Lansing Police Department is investigating this as a suspicious death. We are awaiting the Medical Examiner’s Office’s determination of the cause of death.”

Police said those three sentences were an update to the September discovery of human remains in the 2400 block of Tecumseh River Road. At that time, police were dispatched to the location for a suspicious situation and noticed the apparent human remains, according to the earlier statement. The department said in September that forensic officials from LPD and Michigan State Police as well as the Michigan State University Anthropology team were looking into apparent human remains.

The condition of the remains were initially believed to be several years old, according to police.

At around the same time, police also retrieved a prosthetic leg from the Grand River, which was not related.
