Newly-floated data center rejected by Delhi Township board
A fire marshall stood outside of the doors of a room at the Sam Corey Senior Center, where more than 200 people were turned away from a township meeting that was at capacity.
The board voted unanimously Friday night to oppose any data center development in the township and asked the developer to “keep its promise and stop its proposal due to local opposition.”
Friday was the first time the board could schedule a public meeting after the public, and township officials, learned Tuesday that the Lansing Economic Area Partnership and Lighthouse Sustainability were planning a $10 billion, 400-acre data center.
Township board members said in a statement Friday that they first became aware of the proposal on Tuesday, following a news conference from LEAP and the developers.
The township issued a statement that day saying no project had been discussed or considered and the township withdrew from LEAP on Wednesday. The township scheduled the meeting on Thursday.
The meeting was well over capacity and congressional candidate William Lawrence had to wait for about an hour before the room cleared enough for him, and for others, to be able to speak.
