Thousands out of power in Greater Lansing area after storms
Thursday’s thunderstorms, winds and rain have left thousands without power in the Greater Lansing area, according to outage trackers from Lansing Board of Water and Light and Consumers Energy.
Downtown East Lansing lost power, closing City Hall and most businesses along with traffic lights that caused slow traffic.
BWL is reporting 66 outages that are affecting 3,200 customers and Consumers is reporting hundreds of outages with nearly 28,000 customers out of power, as of 5:15 p.m.
There was a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Ingham County until 3:30 p.m., and the system has included penny-sized hail and 60mph winds with damage around the Greater Lansing region to roofs, siding and trees, according to the National Weather Service.
Powergrid.us estimated that around 5:15 p.m. there were around 320,000 outages across Michigan, led by Oakland and Wayne counties, out of 5 million customers it monitors.
There are no active warnings for Ingham County as of 5:15 p.m.
