Riverwalk Theatre announces 2010-11 season

Musicals, fairy tales and a double dose of Edward Albee are in the forecast for Riverwalk Theatre, which just announced its 2010-11 season.

"Wiley and the Hairy Man" launches the new lineup July 23-Aug. 1 in Riverwalk's Black Box. It's followed by the main stage production of "Sleeping Beauty" Aug.6-15.

"Caroline, or Change," Tony Kushner and Jeanine Tesori's musical set in Louisiana in the midst of the civil rights movement, runs on the main stage Sept. 9-19. Lee Blessing's "Fortinbras" — a follow-up to Shakespeare's "Hamlet," in which most of the characters return as ghosts — comes to the Black Box Oct. 1-10.

"The Farnsworth Invention," Aaron Sorkin's drama about TV inventor Philo Farnsworth, comes to the main stage Oct. 21-31, followed by "Puss in Boots" (Nov. 26-Dec. 5). The new year brings the comedy "Almost, Maine" to the main stage Jan. 13-23, followed by the 1950s/1960s musical revue "Smokey Joe's Cafe" Feb. 17-27.

"The Browning Version," a drama set in the world of academia, is staged at the Black Box March 4-13. Children encounter a flock of prehistoric birds in "Night of the Pterodactyls" March 25-April 3, and "Vincent in Brixton," a largely fictional account of Vincent van Gogh's romance with an Englishwoman, arrives on the main stage April 28-May 8, 2011.

The Black Box offers a double bill of Edward Albee May 13-22, 2011: "At Home at the Zoo/The Zoo Story" combines Albee's 1959 "Zoo Story" with the play he wrote almost a half-century later as its prequel. The season wraps up with "Musical Comedy Murders of 1940" on the main stage, June 2-12, 2011.
