So who approved the permit? Did anyone actually jump on Google Earth and take a look at where the proposed fence line would be? Who in local government took the initiative, prior to the permit being approved, to reach out to the management team at Neogen and ask if they would be willing to grant an easement to their property and run the rear fence line on the near side of it?

What if there had been out-of-the-box thinking in play, that framed the request for the easement with a corresponding recognition and tax credit for donating the easement to the city? Imagine the goodwill such a deal would have generated for Neogen and the City
