‘Black Rock 101’

Posted

Demand for a sold-out show at UrbanBeat in February led Lansing’s Black Rock Sextet to plan a follow-up concert at The Green Door 8 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 18).

The show, “Black Rock 101,” tells the story of Black artists’ contributions to rock ‘n’ roll and features local musicians Bill Malone and Eric Hamilton of Mixed Flavors, Clarence “Boonie” Dottery of Global Village, Detroit-based soloist Kasan Belgrave, Alan Sloan of Sloan & the Filthy Animals and Benjamin Hall of the Further Adventures of FatBoy and JiveTurkey.

The setlist spans numerous decades, with entries including tunes from legendary Black artists like Little Richard, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Sly Stone, Prince, Alabama Shakes and Black Pumas.

Tickets are $15 in advance at blackrock101.bpt.me or $20 at the door.
