FRIDAY, May 7 — As part of the Lansing Lugnuts' opening week festivities, Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin's husband, Dave Slotkin, made an appearance as the team's mascot, Big Lug.

"Dave had the distinct honor of getting to dress up as the Big Lug," Slotkin said in a press release. "He had way, way too much fun. There was dancing. And attempts at stunts.  This was basically his dream of an opportunity."

The Lugnut's opening week continues into the weekend, as the team has two more matches against the Lake County Captains on Saturday and Sunday. The Lugnuts captured a victory on opening night, but have since dropped three in a row to the Captains, leaving Lansing's home team with a 1-3 record.

On Saturday, attendees to Jackson Field are invited to bring their dogs with them and enjoy discounts on White Claw for a special event known as Paws and Claws. Opening week concludes on Sunday with a promotion sponsored by Meijer's Capital City Market, where children can run the bases after the game.
