FRIDAY, Oct. 16 — Looking for some Halloween fun that you can participate in from the comfort of your own home? The East Lansing Downtown Management Board is holding its inaugural Great Pumpkin Photo Contest. The contest is open to all East Lansing community members.

The photo contest is COVID-19-friendly replacement for East Lansing’s annual Great Pumpkin Walk.

Members of the community can submit up to five photos. The only requirement is that they feature pumpkins. The rest is up to you. Photos can include roommates, family members, friends or animal companions. Costumes are encouraged!

You can take the photo in a location of your choosing — on the porch, at a pumpkin patch or wherever you feel you can best capture the Halloween spirit.

“We hope this fun new activity will encourage community members to get into the Halloween spirit and have a little fun with their family or roommates,” said Amy Schlusler-Schmitt, manager of East Lansing Community Development & Engagement. “We also encourage our winners to use their prizes to support our local businesses in downtown East Lansing.”

Those who enter the contest have a chance to win a prepaid Visa gift card and/or a downtown East Lansing parking voucher. First prize gets a $300 pre-paid Visa gift card, second prize gets one worth $200 and third gets one for $100. All those who place — plus eight honorable mention winners — will receive a parking voucher worth $25.

While the photos can be taken anywhere, the top prize is reserved for the best photo taken somewhere in downtown East Lansing. The contest winners could also be featured in East Lansing marketing materials.

If you are searching for the perfect place to take your photo, look no further. The East Lansing Farmers Market has you covered. There will be a Great Pumpkin Selfie Station at the East Lansing Farmers Market on Oct. 18 and Oct. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Recent photos are preferred, and significant editing is not allowed. Submissions are due by midnight November first, so get those cameras ready!
