April 28, Wednesday, 1:28 p.m. — This story has been updated.

MONDAY, April 26 — Lansing social media is lamenting grim news — the beloved venue Mac's Bar will no longer host live music. Talent buyer Scott Bell said owner Chuck Mannino has gutted the inside of the building since its closure during the coronavirus pandemic and is renovating it with plans to turn it into a sports bar. Live concerts and shows are highly unlikely to return once Mac’s Bar finally reopens.

Meanwhile, the employees are asking for some help. A small line of merchandise, as well as a compilation album featuring a score of local indie rock bands, is available online in order to fundraise for the workers that have been laid off since the venue and bar down.

You can show your support for Mac’s Bar employees by donning a t-shirt featuring a metalhead cat rocking a denim vest adorned with logos of Lansing-based punk bands, or you can show some love by attaching an enamel pin of the bar’s infamous golden dumpster to your favorite jacket.

“We’ve kept the website open as the need for assistance is still there,” Bell said. “We’re keeping pets and people fed. These people have been like family to me for more than 10 years.”

You can purchase the Mac’s Bar employees fundraising merchandise at macsbarmerchandise.bigcartel.com.
