Massive 3D projection-mapping art display comes to downtown Friday night

THURSDAY, Dec. 17 — Capital City Film Festival is kicking off this weekend’s mini film festival by previewing a massive public art project that has been in development for several years.

On Friday, beginning at 5:30 p.m., the 14-story facade of the Downtown Comerica Bank building will be the canvas of a dreamlike display of 3D projection-mapping art and technology. The 12,000 square foot artwork is entitled “Terra Forms: The Saga of a Cosmic Tree.” Viewers of the projection are taken on a journey through the life on an ancient tree as it progresses from a tiny seedling to a gargantuan super organism.

After the projection is debuted, Capital City Film Festival will host a lineup of drive-in films originally intended for the full-scale festival that was postponed earlier this year. “Terra Forms” will be broadcasted throughout Friday night, after 5:30 p.m. you can catch it every half hour.
