Protest alleges history of racially biased reporting by City Pulse

Posted

THURSDAY, May 20 — About 15 people led by New Citizens' Press publisher Rina Risper and Ingham County Commissioner Derrell Slaughter met in front of City Pulse’s office this evening to protest the newspaper’s recent coverage.

Risper alleged that she was treated unfairly by City Pulse staff in at least two stories — and one editorial — that involved allegations from Risper that she was victimized by City Councilwoman and mayoral candidate Kathie Dunbar, namely by sexual harassment and Dunbar’s alleged use of the N-word.

Joining Risper and Slaughter in public remarks against City Pulse were City Councilwoman and competing mayoral candidate Patricia Spitzley, former City Councilwoman Jody Washington and Rina Risper’s daughter, Anissa Risper.

Risper alleges that City Pulse reported on her claims against Kathie Dunbar with an inadequate level of scrutiny compared to other women who came forward against former mayor Virg Bernero. Slaughter criticized City Pulse’s social justice survey. Spitzley and Washington both spoke in support of Risper.

Risper also claimed that City Pulse’s coverage involves a racial bias against women of color.

You can watch the entire demonstration and listen to their uncut remarks in the following video recorded by City Pulse.

""Risper also claimed that City Pulse’s coverage involves a racial bias against women of color."" Why is it that whenever someone has an unsupportable issue... they always teach into the ",because I'm black" bag?How about because you suddenly bring up something from too many years back to even get facts on it?Even funnier would be seeing HER response if the tables were turned. Issues of truth should never be tied to a color...just to facts. This behavior isn't "progress"... just like most of BLM...its throwing us in reverse.I have NEVER supported anyone simply based on their " color"but if this keeps happening....they're going to be losing support from.people who have always wanted us all to get to more solid ground.Guess this ISNT about playing "nice" with the other children.

And y'all were dumb enough to give this dizzy, problematic person a voice to level torrid and politically-motivated accusations. I would say I hope you learned your lesson, but I'm sure you haven't.

Good job on y'all playing yourself.
